Application to halt shows still going ahead in courts

An application to prevent the three Garth Brooks concerts has been listed before the High Court tomorrow — even though the shows are not now going ahead.

The proceedings are being brought by local man Brian Duff against Aiken Promotions (Ireland) Ltd and Páirc an Chrócaigh Teoranta.

The application was made just hours before it was announced the concerts were cancelled.

Mr Duff sought injunctions preventing the holding of the three shows which had secured approval from Dublin City Council which refused permission for two additional gigs.

Mr Duff, a scaffolder who has lived in the area around the stadium all his life, was objecting to the concerts on grounds the proposed concerts with cause a nuisance and antisocial behaviour.

At the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Paul Gilligan granted Mr Duff permission to serve short service of proceedings against Aiken Promotions (Ireland) Ltd and Páirc an Chrócaigh Teoranta. Leave was granted on an ex-parte basis.

Frank Callanan, SC for Mr Duff, said Mr Duff, who lives at Cumberland Street North, claims during the concerts he will have limited access to his home and will be subjected to concert-goers “vomiting” and “urinating” on the street.
