Never mind Ibiza, Ireland set to be hotter than the Mediterranean today

Ireland will be hotter than Ibiza at 26C today as we bask in what’s set to be the hottest day of the year.

Since the weekend, the country’s beaches, parks and lakes have been thronged with people revelling in a mini heatwave which saw the hottest day of the year record broken on Monday and yesterday.

Met Éireann say that temperatures could reach as high as 29 degrees in some parts of the country today — with the northern and eastern coast seeing slightly lower temperatures due to sea breezes.

And the good news is, it’s not going to finish soon. According to forecasters, the weather will remain dry almost everywhere until the weekend.

“The south of the country in particular will still be warm with highest temperatures of 19 to 22 degrees on both days. The high pressure will become a bit less dominant over the weekend, but most areas will continue dry with a mix of cloudy periods and sunshine,” the spokesman added.

Bord na Móna has joined Coillte, gardaí and the Fire Service in appealing to all users of the countryside to be particularly careful of the threat of fire to woodland and bog areas. It is illegal to set fires in growing vegetation between March 1 and August 28.
