It would be easy to dismiss the arrival of a 36-year-old prop with his international career long behind him as something of a backwards step for Munster but in Kieran Brookes, the province may have attracted not just a hidden gem, but a multi-faceted one at that.

Capped by Ireland at under-age level and Irish qualified through a Dublin-born grandfather and Belfast-born granny, the tighthead was capped 16 times by England between 2014-16 and is a much-travelled veteran of front-row battles in both the Premiership and French Top 14.
