Man in court over €2.5m drugs haul in Dublin

The drugs were found at a number of premises in the Coolock area of Dublin as part of a planned Garda search operation on Saturday afternoon.
Most of the cannabis herb and cannabis resin were recovered from searches of properties but drugs worth approximately €400,000 were found in a car which failed to stop for gardaí while driving in the direction of the Malahide Road and which later crashed on Marigold Avenue in Darndale. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot.
A man in his forties was arrested as part of the operation.
He is expected before Court No 4 of the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning to be charged in relation to the seizure.
Some 120kg of the drug were seized in what gardaí said was a significant find. It followed an intelligence operation aimed at the supply network for drugs in the greater Dublin area.
In a separate incident, a man was charged before a special sitting of Naas district court yesterday morning following the seizure of cannabis plants worth €130,000 at a house in Co Wicklow on Saturday.
The cannabis plants were found during a search of a house at Rath Na Bo in Blessington.
A man, aged in his mid-40s, was arrested and was taken for questioning to Bray Garda Station.
Elsewhere, gardaí in Cobh, Co Cork, are investigating after cannabis plants worth an estimated €30,000 were discovered in a house in the town on Friday night. The drugs — described as a large amount of mature plants — were discovered by gardaí carrying out a planned search of a house in the Russell Heights estate at around 11pm.
It is understood no arrests have yet been made and gardaí are continuing their investigation which was made on foot of a warrant.
