Dog survives accident to be re-united with owners

An eight-year-old Springer Spaniel missing for two weeks after the Limerick floods, and then hit by a car on the Ennis Road, has been re-united with his delighted owners.

As Bertie and Mary Flannerys’ Athlunkard Street home was flooded, the dog, Grouse, was taken to safety by the fire brigade, only to disappear.

As the family searched for their beloved dog, and Limerick Animal Welfare posted notices on their Facebook page, there was no sign of Grouse.

Last Saturday, two weeks after he went missing, Michaela Peters and Daniel Hassett witnessed a dog being hit on the Ennis Road. Amazingly it was unhurt and it followed them back to their friend Alan Feeney’s home.

Alan, who contacted Josephine Treacy of LAW. She rang Noel Shinnors, a voluntary animal welfare inspector, had actually re-homed Grouse with Bertie. And then he reunited Grouse with the Flannerys.
