€1,000 of heroin was stashed in house

Gardaí got a warrant to search a house at Fairhill in Cork where they found a stash of heroin with a street value of €1,000.

A young woman pleaded guilty yesterday to having the diamorphine, better known as heroin, for her own use and for the purpose of selling or supplying to others.

Niamh O’Sullivan, 31, admitted the offences committed at her home at 21 Bridevalley View, Fairhill, Cork, on Mar 30, 2013.

Inspector Bill Duane said the defendant was arrested at the scene on that date when conveyed to Gurranabraher Garda Station. “She admitted holding the drugs for an unnamed third party for a fee.”

O’Sullivan also admitted another offence committed later that same month, Mar 30 last year, where she stole cosmetics to the value of €73 at McCarthy’s pharmacy on Patrick Street, Cork.

Judge Olann Kelleher could not proceed with sentencing as it emerged that O’Sullivan’s previous convictions included one where she had been given a six-month jail sentence suspended on condition that she would keep the peace.

Judge Kelleher remanded her in custody.
