Aussie squad in ruckus

Members of the Australian International Rules squad reportedly caused a number of early morning disturbances in their team hotel in Clare yesterday.

Aussie squad in ruckus

Australian media claim players were twice asked by staff in Dromoland Castle to turn down loud music emanating from a hotel room after 5am yesterday.

It was also suggested hotel property was damaged. The incident followed a night out in a Limerick nightclub.

The players were hauled in front of Australian Football League officials and coach Michael O’Loughlin after breakfast and warned of their responsibilities.

The squad travelled to Clare from Cavan on Sunday having lost Saturday’s first test to Ireland by 22 points, a deficit going into the second and final test this Saturday.

It was the second straight night of revelry for the players.

The hotel played down the episode. “We had no issue as such,” said Dromoland Castle deputy general manager Simon Hodgson. “We are very happy to have the Australian team here.”
