Woman buried in shallow grave may have been Irish

A woman whose body was found in a shallow grave in an isolated part of Edinburgh may have been Irish. It is understood she may have lain there for months.

Scottish police last night confirmed they have finally identified the woman after a month-long investigation to uncover her identity. However, they have refused to reveal any details about the individual until all next of kin are informed.

The woman’s remains were found in a shallow grave at Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh, on Jun 6. A forensic examination found the woman had undergone extensive cosmetic dental implants and veneers, believed to have cost as much as €18,000.

A claddagh ring was also found with the body, leading to a joint operation between Scottish police and gardaí.

“Identifying the victim was the first priority of this murder investigation,” Det Chief Insp Keith Hardie from Police Scotland’s major investigation team told reporters yesterday. “While this is positive news, it also means that a loved one has been lost. We are progressing our inquiries into the circumstances of this woman’s death and to finding those responsible for it.”
