Drug den next to Garda station

A drugs den has been raided just metres from a Co Donegal Garda station — after addicts called to the wrong address looking for heroin.

A householder got a shock when she answered her door to a person looking for the drug at Newline Court in Letterkenny.

The suspicious resident then contacted the nearby Garda station to alert them of the problem.

Gardaí raided the house and a quantity of heroin was uncovered and a man was arrested.

He is expected to appear at a future sitting of the local courts.

Local anti-drugs campaigner PJ Blake said he was delighted by the find and the assistance of the public in alerting the gardaí.

He said that because of the lack of gardaí in Donegal, the public has a role to play in tackling the scourge of drugs.

“It’s no secret that the drugs squad is operating on a shoestring.

“This is the kind of public assistance we need to stamp this scourge out.

“Everyone has a role to play and this person showed how they can literally keep drugs off our streets.”
