But Irish violinist Una Palliser said she gets goosebumps just rehearsing for an opera opening in Cork this week which she said will blow audiences’ minds.

“It’s going to be spectacular — unlike anything that’s been seen in Cork before,” she said.

“It really pushes the boundaries.

“If I was doing a show like this in London, I’d be raving about it.”

The Everyman and Cork Operatic Society will stage Leoncavallo’s classic commedia dell’arte opera Pagliacci this week in association with Cork Midsummer Festival, Barabbas and Cork Circus.

The Everyman will be transformed — through the foyer and into the auditorium — into a pulsating and dynamic fairground in which the artists move inwards towards the auditorium, followed by the audience, with the action taking place in their midst.

It runs at the Everyman, from Wednesday until Tuesday, June 26, excluding Thursday 21 and Sunday. Tickets, which cost €35, €30, €25 and €15 are available on www.everymanpalace.com or tel: 021 4501673.
