Tribute to ‘public face of city council’
Pat Duggan who was from Blackrock, worked with Cork City Council for 39 years. He was cremated yesterday after losing a long battle with illness.
He played a key role in the council’s public relations unit for several years. He was Cork City Council’s millennium officer and later served as its special projects officer.
And despite his diagnosis and ill-health in recent years, he continued working until his retirement last summer.
Councillors paid glowing tributes to Mr Duggan at Monday night’s council meeting before observing a minute’s silence in his memory.
City manager Tim Lucey described Mr Duggan as a “committed and engaging” public servant.
“He was part of the furniture here. No job was ever too small for him,” he said.
Mr Duggan is survived by his wife, Mary, and four sons, Patrick, Daniel, Paul, and David.
