Man treated for knife stuck in throat

The man, whom gardaí believe is from England but who has been living in Ireland for many years, walked from his home in Neelish Close to a neighbour’s house a number of doors away to summon help.

This was shortly before lunchtime yesterday.

It is understood the knife was still stuck in his throat at the time.

He claimed he had been stabbed at about 6.30am.

Emergency services including an ambulance were called to the housing development and the man was taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where he underwent surgery.

The knife was successfully removed and the man was said to be in a serious though not life-threatening condition last night.

Garda in charge of the investigation, Inspector Martin McCarthy said the gardaí are treating the matter as a serious assault and are waiting to interview the man. No one has been arrested.

The man’s home was sealed off last night and Garda forensics are carrying out a technical examination of the scene.
