Care home plan for hotel put on hold

Clare County Council planners are seeking further information on proposals to revitalise the now-closed Two Mile Inn on the Clare-Limerick border.

Cork-based firm O’Moradh Construction lodged plans in August for a state-of-the-art convalescent nursing home.

The hotel has been closed since last September when 15 full-time jobs were lost.

However, there has been opposition from three separate parties.

In one submission, chartered engineer Jason Redmond noted: “It would not be possible for a bed to be removed in the event of emergency, from a bedroom due to reduced corridor width. In today’s standards for evacuation procedures, it should be possible to evacuate the residents in their beds.”

Kildare resident Leslie McCarthy is the owner of five suites which were built onto the hotel.

His submission states: “Those suites received planning to be used in conjunction with a hotel operation. So there lies my interest in the application.”

Clare County Council has put the plan on hold with senior planner Gordon Daly requesting developers to comment on submissions.
