President special guest for Cripple on Inis Meáin

PRESIDENT Mary McAleese and her husband, Senator Martin McAleese, were special guests yesterday afternoon at Druid’s performance of Martin McDonagh’s play The Cripple of Inishmaan on Inis Meáin, Co Galway.

Druid presented two performances of the play, at 1.30pm and 8.30pm, at Halla Naomh Eoin. McDonagh and his parents were guests at the evening show. These were the final performances of the play in a major five-month US and Irish tour that began in Roscommon last January.

The Cripple of Inishmaan was directed by Garry Hynes, the artistic director of the Galway-based Druid theatre company. “Touring is in Druid’s DNA,” said Hynes, “and we have homes in every part of the country.
