City’s Lark in the Park returns

WATERFORD’S Lark in The Park is set to return to the city after a 25-year break.

City’s Lark in the Park returns

It will be part of a week-long celebration to mark 25 years of Waterford Youth Arts in the city.

A hugely successful and regular feature in Waterford’s summer in the 1980s, the event returns to The People’s Park this Sunday with performances by 12 local bands and musicians associated with WYA.

The city council will hand over a new graffiti wall to young local spray artists, while book and poetry readings, plays, music and dance will fill the streets with art and entertainment.

Playwright Jim Nolan is directing a production of Dark of the Moon which opened last night at Garter Lane and finishes tomorrow. Meanwhile, from today through to Sunday morning, a play — by young writers Martina Collender and Megan Stokes — suitable for those aged between four to 10 years, will take place in the park. A classic murder-mystery whodunit the play starts at the bandstand. A real highlight of the weekend will be the launch of the “Collected Works” of Jim Daly, a stalwart in WAY who died last year.
