Man critical after stabbing
The victim, believed to have an address in the western suburbs of Cork city, was attacked outside an apartment in Mallow at around 1am yesterday.
Gardaí and other emergency services were quickly on the scene and the man was rushed to Mallow General Hospital where he was understood to be in a critical condition.
Senior garda sources said the victim wasn’t living in the apartment, but was visiting somebody when the attack took place in the housing complex at Fair Green. “He was outside the apartment (he was visiting) when he was stabbed.
“There were a number of people attending a party in another apartment at the time the incident took place and we are anxious to talk to them,” the senior garda spokesman said.
Gardaí arrested two people a short time later.
The garda spokesman described them as being a man and a woman, who are both in their 20s and have addresses in the Mallow area.
They were brought to Mallow garda station where they were being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí sealed off the area for a number of hours as forensic experts carried out a detailed technical examination of the scene.
They also carried out house-to-house inquiries as part of their investigation.
“We are very anxious to talk to anybody who was in the vicinity of the Fair Green area of Mallow between 1am and 2am on Sunday and who saw anything suspicious.”
