A WOMAN who was repeatedly raped as a child by a notorious Dublin criminal has waived her anonymity to express her delight that her attacker has been “exposed for what he really is”.

Rape victim goes public after man jailed for ‘repulsive’ attacks

In a statement read outside the Central Criminal Court, 25-year-old Ruth Dunne said she was “very pleased” with the decision to sentence 62-year-old Stephen ‘Rossi’ Walsh to 10 years in jail for the horrific attacks against her. The woman made the comment after Mr Justice Paul Carney described the assaults on the then nine-year-old by Walsh as the “most repulsive” he has ever encountered.

Between January 1 and November 9, 1993, the notorious criminal repeatedly raped the nine-year-old in a series of sickening attacks.

On one occasion Walsh blindfolded the girl before asking her to play a game called “fruit and veg”.

In another attack the criminal brought Ms Dunne and her sister to the beach before raping the nine-year-old during a game of hide-and-seek.

After the incident, he threatened the girl that her parents would be targeted by Walsh and his associates if she complained.

“I’m very pleased with the results and justice that has been done today,” said Ms Dunne through her senior counsel. “I’m glad that this man has been exposed to the public for what he really is.”
