A SPECIAL plaque has been unveiled to commemorate the 150-year historical connection between the Crosbie family – owners of the Irish Examiner – and Cork city centre.

Four members of the Crosbie family – Ted, Alan, Tom and Billy – watched yesterday as the pavement plaque, commissioned by O’Callaghan Properties (OCP), was unveiled on St Patrick’s Street outside the site of the original entrance to the Examiner’s former headquarters.

Ted Crosbie, vice-chairman of Thomas Crosbie Holdings, helped developer Owen O’Callaghan unveil the bronze plaque outside OCP’s €500 million Opera Lane development, which includes the site of the newspaper’s former office and printing site.
