Wall E captures votes of children
In a list produced by Xtra-vision and ambitiously billed as the Top 10 Kids’ Movies of All Time, the technical whimsy of Pixar has staked top spot for Wall E, a charming ecological parable and tale of love about a robot who drops to earth, but not as we know it.
Next up is Shrek, a gassy green bug-luving Ogre with his ditzy donkey friend, a fairytale that appeals to adults and children alike with Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy delivering perfectly paced cutting-edge humour.
Finding Nemo, the tale of a colourful clownfish stolen from his coral reef home and heading for Sydney Harbour all the while dancing with disaster, is in at number three.
At number four is The Lion King, tagged as life’s great adventure in finding your place in the circle of life, and still a firm favourite 15 years post-release.
The answer to what happens to toys when you leave them alone in a room is at number six featuring Woody the cowboy and Buzz Lightwear — the spaceman who slug it out for young Andy’s attentions in Toy Story.
The oldest favourite is that revered classic, the Wizard of Oz, 70 years on and still pulling in the audiences. At number seven it is one place ahead of the most recent movie on the list — Ratatouille — where the unthinkable combination of a rat and a 5-star gourmet restaurant come together for the ultimate fish-out-of-water tale.
ET, a Spielberg classic, is at number nine and at number 10 is the bitter-sweet tale of everyone’s favourite orphan — Annie.
If you are one of the unlucky to have missed out an any of these movie treats, now is your time.
Tying in with the Easter break, Xtra-vision is offering a 50 cent rental deal on children’s movies.
What’s more, the 50 cent offer is to be a permanent deal available to all Xtra-vision customers in a recession busting entertainment offer.
