Gardaí investigate separate shooting incidents
A man, who was shot in the leg as he walked in the Garryowen area of Limerick on Sunday night, underwent surgery at the Mid-Western Regional hospital yesterday afternoon and his condition is said not to be life-threatening.
He has been named as Thomas Power, aged 20, who lives in Garryowen.
A gunman carrying a semi-automatic handgun got out of a black BMW which pulled up beside the victim and opened fire.
Gardaí are satisfied the shooting is not gang-related and the victim had no feud links.
Mr Power was walking with some other people when the gunman’s car drove up.
Meanwhile, gardaí are investigating an incident in which a shot was fired at an unmarked Garda patrol car in Cork city at about midnight on Sunday.
The incident happened when detectives were on patrol at a halting site on Carrigrohane Road.
A shot was also fired by one of the occupants of a car which followed the detectives into the site.
No one was injured in this incident.
The car was later found abandoned on the north side of the city.
