91-year-old man killed in accident involving lorry
The accident took place as the man crossed the road at Ballyjamesduff just before noon yesterday.
He was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man was named as Harry Gaffney, Gallonbane, Ballyjamesduff.
Meanwhile, a man was hospitalised after he was stabbed a number of times in Carlow town.
The man, in his 30s, was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny yesterday. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
It is understood the attack happened at about 6am at Dargan Lawns, Burrin Road.
A man is believed to have fled the scene with his shirt badly torn.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area at that time and who may have information to contact gardaí at Carlow on 059 9136620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
And, gardaí in Limerick were last night still trying to contact relatives of a Polish man killed in a road accident in west Limerick.
The married man, in his 30s, was a front seat passenger in a car which collided with a truck on the Newcastle West/ Rathkeale road at about 2.30am yesterday.
The driver of the car, also Polish, is in a critical condition at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
The Polish men had been living in Limerick.
Gardaí at Askeaton would like to hear from anybody travelling between Newcastle West and Rathkeale at about 2.30am.
