Victoria Moverley, of no fixed address and formerly of Mount George, Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, was charged with assaulting Renars Tuliko causing him harm contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Act on a date between April 13 and 15 last.

Det Sgt James White said the accused made no reply when the charge was put to her. He applied for a remand in custody. He said the injured party was since deceased and other serious charges may be contemplated.

Anna Fitzpatrick, solicitor, who was appointed under the free legal aid scheme for the accused, said her client was a single mother whose three children were in foster care. Since the incident, the accused had left the jurisdiction and had returned voluntarily and made contact herself with the gardaí.

While Ms Moverley had no fixed address, her mother and sister were living locally.

She said the accused had travelled to Britain with her ex-partner but had returned against his wishes.

Ms Fitzpatrick said the accused was a chronic alcoholic. The solicitor suggested if bail was not granted, the accused be given appropriate medical attention in custody.

Judge Elizabeth McGrath refused bail and remanded the accused in custody to the same court on December 5.
