Gardaí recover arms and drugs in gun murder probe
Kevin Ledwidge, 27, was blasted once in his chest with a shotgun early on Sunday morning when he opened his front door at Rathoath Drive, Finglas.
He only left prison last Friday but was known locally to be involved in a number of disputes as well as having a drink problem.
It remained unclear last night though whether his killing was a case of mistaken identity or a revenge attack. The single man has not been linked with the drugs trade or a gangland feud.
Gardaí raided at least eight homes locally after the weekend murder.
A small amount of drugs believed to be heroin as well as a firearm where recovered.
Ammunition, a submachine gun as well as some cash are understood to have been recovered.
Investigators hope an Opel Vectra found crashed near the murder scene may hold key forensic clues as to Mr Ledwidge’s killers, who are thought to have fled by foot.
One line of inquiry also centres on whether shots fired in the same house last month are linked to the shooting.
Meanwhile, gardaí are investigating the possibility that the Romanian man who was stabbed to death over the weekend may have been murdered in an apartment in Bettystown, Co Meath.
The apartment was sealed off by gardaí on Sunday night as part of their ongoing investigations into the murder the 32-year-old man.
Late on Friday night he was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but was pronounced dead.
Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to the murder.
House-to-house inquiries and searches of the Coach Yard area of Nenagh have also been taking place after the death of a man in the town in a stabbing incident on Sunday.
The man, in his 30s and originally from Ukraine, was drinking in a house near the centre of the town with a number of other people when a row broke out.
Another man was injured during the incident.
