Greencore workers ‘glad’ to return to Labour Court

GREENCORE and its workers’ unions are to be brought back to the Labour Court, in the coming days, to debate the redundancy entitlements of the former workers.

Pat Guilfoyle of the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) last night said he had been told the Labour Court was to recall both sides, to help hammer out what package the workers are entitled to from the company, which closed its Mallow factory on May 12.

That is despite the fact that the court has already had a full hearing, issued a recommendation on how the dispute should be resolved and even given two clarifications on its decision.

The company and unions have been waiting for several weeks for a statement on the situation from the National Implementation Body, but that has still not been forthcoming and the TEEU believe it may not be issued now.

Pat Guilfoyle said he was not surprised the court was to sit again as the unions, TEEU and SIPTU, had been putting pressure on it to step in. He claimed the company had not obeyed the recommendation.

“We are glad to return to the court because we are confident that our position will be vindicated,” he said.

Greencore was last nigh unavailable for comment.
