Dunphy aiming for comeback with RTÉ radio show
Conversations with Eamon Dunphy will go out at 9.10am on Saturdays. On the show he will talk to some of the country’s most prominent people about their lives, passions and the music which inspires them.
Dunphy yesterday said he is delighted to be presenting the new programme.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I plan to have interesting guests, some humour, some insight and a relaxed Saturday morning atmosphere.”
While critics say he is one of the few people on the planet who can brighten a room by leaving it, there is little doubt he has the Midas touch in terms of delivering a record audience whether in television, radio or print journalism.
Dunphy said recently he was cutting back on a previous hectic work schedule for health reasons.
The programme will precede two of the most listened-to programmes in the country.
Ruth Buchanan’s Playback with 262,000 listeners will move to the later time of 10.02am and Marian Finucane with 272,000 listeners will continue in the same Saturday slot at 11.02am.
Commenting on the new Saturday morning schedule, RTÉ Head of Radio 1 Ana Leddy said the addition of another top presenter will give listeners more variety and high-quality programming.
“With Marian Finucane and Playback, RTÉ Radio 1 already has the most popular programmes on weekend radio,” she said. “Conversations with Eamon Dunphy will add to the RTÉ Radio 1 weekend mix giving listeners another top presenter, more variety and high-quality programming.”
