Gardaí yet to identify shed body

Gardaí are still trying to establish the identity of the man discovered in a shed on the outskirts of the town close to the main N1 road to Dundalk on Saturday evening. It is believed the body had been in the disused building for almost a week. The State pathologist Dr John Harbison arrived in Drogheda yesterday to conduct a postmortem on the body which it is hoped will help to establish the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, gardaí have named the man killed in a road traffic accident in Longford early yesterday morning as John Martin, aged 56, of Kilcurry, Co Longford. Mr Martin’s death brings to 283 the number of people killed on roads in the Republic so far this year.

In Monaghan, a teenage boy was released without charge after being questioned about a hit-and-run accident which resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Emma Markey of Terrygeeley, Braddox, was knocked down just yards from her home as she was returning from a local disco.

A file on the case is being forwarded to the DPP.

Gardaí in Galway have still not released the name of a woman who died on Saturday morning following a traffic accident in the city on the previous day.

However, they have established her identity and have contacted the woman’s family.
