Thousands of passengers suffer as French air traffic controllers strike

Ryanair and Aer Lingus have cancelled all but one of their scheduled flights from Ireland to France. The Aer Lingus EI524 service to Paris is expected to leave Dublin at 11.45am, with the return flight from Paris scheduled for 3.15pm.

The national airline has cancelled two other Dublin-Paris flights, the two Dublin-Nice services and this morning’s Cork-Paris flight.

An extra Dublin-Nice service has been scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to facilitate affected customers. An Aer Lingus spokesperson said around 1,000 passengers would be hit by the strike, but it should not have a major impact on business: “It’s one day’s travel to two destinations and most people will be able to make alternative arrangements. The worst thing about something like this is really the inconvenience for passengers.”

For Ryanair, the strike has caused the cancellation of four services to Paris-Beauvais today, three of them from Dublin and one from Shannon.

However, hundreds more Irish Ryanair passengers may be affected by the cancellation of services from London-Stansted to Brest, Biarritz, Carcassonne, Dinard, St Etienne-Lyon, Bergerac, La Rochelle, Montpellier, Perpignan, Pau, Rodez, Reims or Tours. Extra flights have been arranged to a number of French destinations from Stansted, Dublin and Shannon to accommodate passengers.

All Air France flights from Dublin to Paris and Bordeaux, operated by CityJet, except the AF5013 from Dublin at 7.10pm which was still scheduled to go ahead last night. The airline will give affected customers who do not wish to make alternative arrangements vouchers to the value of their cancelled flights (contact 01 6050383).

Ryanair passengers whose customers’ flights are cancelled are entitled to be reaccommodation on another flight or a refund. Details are available by calling 0818 30 30 50.

Similar arrangements are on offer from Aer Lingus, call 0818 365 000.
