Judge orders arrest of Keane over court no-show

A DISTRICT court judge has ordered the arrest of Liam Keane, whose trial for murder collapsed at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on Monday.

Judge orders arrest of Keane over court no-show

The judge made the order yesterday when the 19-year-old Limerick man failed to appear in court to answer charges of threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

The charges relate to alleged incidents which occurred in the car park of the Parkway Shopping Centre in Limerick on October 19, 2003.

When his case was called in Limerick District Court, the judge was told by a solicitor that Keane and his legal representative were still in Dublin. Garda Inspector Pat Connolly from Henry Street Station, prosecuting, then asked for a bench warrant so Keane could be arrested.

Keane, of Singland Gardens, Ballysimon, Limerick walked free from the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on Monday after his trial for murder collapsed when the sixth prosecution witness denied making a statement to the gardaí identifying him as the killer.

Keane had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Eric Leamy, aged 19, St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park, in Limerick in August 2001.

Trial judge Mr Justice Paul Carney said Mr Keane was leaving the court with his “constitutional presumption of innocence intact”.
