It’s enough to melt the Easter eggs
Swimmers from Howth to Harbour Point are enjoying what’s going to be a sizzler ... well, for a few days anyway.
Temperatures today will hit 21ºC just after the country basked in a scorching 24ºC of heat yesterday. There will be more sunshine tomorrow and Sunday and weather experts are looking on the bright side.
“If we hadn’t had such a great few days recently, Saturday would be considered a really hot day. Generally the weather for most of the weekend is very good,” a Met Eireann spokesperson said.
There will be plenty of sunshine in the west and especially in the north west on Sunday. However the weather will rain on the Easter party by Monday.
“It’s likely that the temperature will fall and there will be showers on Monday,” the Met Eireann spokesperson said.
Hundreds of thousands of motorists are packing their bags and hitting the roads today in search of the best sun traps.
Bus Éireann will carry 100,000 passengers and more than 340,000 people are expected to travel through Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports during the weekend. Some 2,250 flights will arrive and depart the three airports during the busy Easter holidays.
Water safety groups last night urged the public stay sober, wear lifejackets and take care on the country’s waters this weekend.
“Water temperatures are still cold and swimmers are cautioned that their bodies are not acclimatised and not to stay long in the water. Alcohol is a contributory factor in 30% of all accidental drownings,” said Irish Water Safety chairman, Frank Nolan.
