Banned doctors may face charges over cancer treatments
A garda spokesperson confirmed at the weekend that a major investigation is ongoing into the activities of Dr Paschal Carmody and Dr William Porter, who charged patients up to €20,000 for a treatment which they claimed was “effective against most type of cancers.” A garda spokesperson said “a huge number of patient files” had to be examined.
A review of 48 patients treated by the doctors in late 2002 and early 2003 found 17 had died within six months of treatment and many suffered after-effects. On foot of the review, the Irish Medical Council asked the gardaí to investigate.
