Law firm lives or dies on post

SOLICITOR Jim Hally typically receives 30 pieces of post each day and sends out between 40 and 50 letters and parcels.

But on Thursday and Friday of last week, he received no post whatsoever. His Tramore office is just a stone’s throw from the resort’s post office.

He called in there on Saturday morning to collect the backlog, only to be told it was being sorted in Waterford and he might not have a service on Monday.

“Thankfully, we had post on Monday and again on Tuesday. Our business would be totally devastated without a postal service. We have no document exchange service here in Tramore. There just aren’t enough businesses to justify it, despite my efforts to get the service.

“We rely a lot on the post for the conveyancing work we do, as well as contracts and other documents,

including loan cheques from lending institutions. While the dispute hasn’t yet caused us a major difficulty, if it gets worse into Christmas, it would have a major impact,” Mr Hally said.

Travelling in and out of Waterford to collect and mail post just isn’t an option for the busy solicitor. Traffic between Tramore and Waterford city is chaotic most days of the week.
