Family renew appeal for missing mother of two as search continues

Marie Heeran, from Co Leitrim, has not been seen since yesterday week.

ā€œWould you please come home, we would love to see you,ā€ said Seamus Heeran yesterday.

Ms Heeran, from Corrabrick, Keshcarrigan, was last seen on Monday, August 15, between Dromod and Rooskey in Roscommon between 1pm and 2pm.

Hundreds of people have been involved in a search, led by Ms Heeran’s brother, Michael Morris.

He said her husband and two children, 19-year-old Michelle and 17-year-old Christopher, ā€œstill expect she will drive into the yard safe and wellā€.

He renewed his appeal for information on the missing woman, who is 48.

Hundreds of people have searched all over Leitrim and Roscommon, backed up by sub-aqua divers, gardaĆ and Air Corps and garda helicopters.

Mr Morris said his sister told him two weeks ago she would visit him at the family home near Rooskey.

He said: ā€œMarie’s husband Seamus woke at about 7.30 on Monday morning last, and when the car wasn’t in the yard he thought there was something wrong.

ā€œIt was thought she had travelled back to her home place in Rooskey, and the last sighting of her was asking two women directions to the garda barracks in Dromod at 1pm on Monday.

ā€œThey told her to go up the road and turn right, but one of the women watched her and she turned left.

ā€œThat turn would still have kept her on route to my house in Rooskey, but she hasn’t been seen since.

ā€œMarie was in good form. I saw her four times in the last month and she was good. She has trouble with diabetes ... and that included taking medication. But I can’t imagine any reason why she would go missing.

ā€œSeamus and the two children are distraught. As the week goes on, you lose hope. It is very tough. It is nerve-wracking. I would appeal to anyone who saw anything at all, no matter how small, to pass that information on to the gardaĆ in Carrick-on-Shannon, or any garda station.ā€

GardaĆ are appealing to landowners to check their properties for Ms Heeran’s car.

ā€œWe are very concerned about Marie’s welfare because she has not been seen or been heard from since last Monday,ā€ Superintendent Padraig Kennedy said.

Ms Heeran was driving a maroon Nissan Primera, registration 96 DL 722.

She is 1.55m tall, of large build with blue eyes, fair complexion and short brown hair. She was wearing a nightdress and a fleece jacket when last seen.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the gardaĆ at Carrick-on-Shannon at 071-962 0021.
