‘I went to confession to the priest that raped me’
Paul, who featured in last night’s Spotlight investigation, is from Gortahork in Donegal.
He now lives in London and feels unable to return home “There was one stage in my life, I had nothing only the clothes I was wearing. I wasn’t even in touch with my family, because I felt so ashamed. There were times that I stood on Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and said ‘go on, do it, get it over and done with, end it now.
“But thank God, I think somebody up there likes me, and said ‘no, don’t do it’. So I didn’t and I pulled myself together, which took a long time. I am now back on my feet again and I will be for the rest of my life, because that bastard is not going to beat me. Paul is adamant Fr Greene should be held accountable for his crimes. “I hate to say the word, but he did rape me. Not only once, but I can’t count them,” he said.
Paul also told of the terrible irony of a young boy having his confession heard by the man who was raping him.
“I went to confession to the priest that was aping me. And I was telling him my sins and he was forgiving me for those sins. It should have been the other way round. ,” he said. John Bonner from Glenties was also abused by Fr Greene His mother, Teresa, said the family only discovered John had been abused as a child four years ago when the gardaí came to their door asking if John had ever been an altar boy for Fr Greene. “There’s no happy ending because no matter where John is we are the ones who will worry about him always,” she said.
