The High Court has reserved judgment in the case of seven water charge protesters facing jail or a fine if found to be in contempt of court regarding the obstruction of water meter installation.

More pockets of resistance against the installations of water meters have emerged even as Irish Water has said the rate of installations is still on target.

Anti-water tax campaigners have warned the Government it faces a wave of nationwide blockades after water meter protests spread yesterday.

BIN charge protestor Mr Declan Mahon, who will be jailed today, said he was sick to the stomach at the thought of walking through the gates of Mountjoy.
