THE ISEQ index moved forward strongly again in morning trading as the market continued to react positively to the Irish Government’s decision to back the country’s main banks and as the US legislators got closer to finalising their own bailout package.

The value of Irish shares slumped by 1.6% at the close of trading today, as the ISEQ index lost 104 points to finish at 6415.12.

THE ISEQ index yesterday gained ground again as the financials clawed back some of the recent losses.

THE ISEQ index finished the session down 31.74 to 9,512.86 as the financial sector dragged the market as a whole into negative figures.

The ISEQ index took an early hammering before 1pm today, losing an incredible 260.89 points to decline to 7,418.13 in a miserable morning of trading where no company made any gains.

THE ISEQ index continued its upward momentum again yesterday as Eircom and Kerry drove the market. The exchange closed 6.05 points up at 7792.98.

Financial stocks failed to rally in Dublin today, spelling a morning in the red for the ISEQ index.

The ISEQ index got over its early morning jitters today to close the day at 5,315.29, up 1.28, although Elan shares slipped more than 4.5%.
