The full lineup has been confirmed for 20th Century Paddy - The Songs Of Shane MacGowan

The final lineup for an album paying tribute to the late Shane MacGowan has been revealed, with major Irish and international acts confirmed on the track list.

Joining the album 20th Century Paddy - The Songs Of Shane MacGowan are U2, Kingfishr, Bob Geldof, David Keenan, Jimmy Artache and Tom Creagh.

Two tracks were previously released ahead of the full album: Bruce Springsteen’s take on A Rainy Night in Soho and Johnny Depp and Imelda May’s duet on Haunted.

MacGowan’s widow Victoria Mary Clarke and record label Rubyworks today unveiled the full list of artists and the iconic songs they have chosen to interpret on the album.

“It is not possible to say how much it means to me and to Shane’s family to have this extraordinary collection of his songs being sung in tribute to him, to his work and to Irish music,” Clarke said.

“When I first met Shane in the early 80s he was inflamed with a powerful, passionate mission to bring Irish music, history and culture to the attention of the world through his songwriting.  It made him feel like the happiest man alive to know that he had achieved his mission, and that there were many more musicians who came after him and who seized that torch and lit fires with it in places that he had not even dreamed of.

“Some of those younger artists are featured on this album, and I know that Shane is overjoyed to hear their beautiful and soulful renditions of his songs. Also featured are artists who came before him, and who inspired him and artists that he worked with, artists who he loved and admired.

“There are so many that it is not possible to mention them all by name but each and every contribution is unique and inspired and sublime and I thank these beautiful people from the very depths of my own soul.”
