Streaming: Rivals

Disney+, Friday, May 15

With a star‑studded cast including David Tennant, Aidan Turner, and Danny Dyer, the stakes are higher and the fallout more explosive in season two of Rivals. Set in the cutthroat world of 1980s television, media mogul Tony Baddingham and ex‑Olympian and notorious womaniser Rupert Campbell‑Black go head‑to‑head for control of the Central South West television franchise. As rivalries push everyone to the brink, loyalties are tested and hearts are broken in the pursuit of victory — but what is the true cost of war?

TV: Father Ted

RTÉ 2, 9pm, Saturday, May 16

Father Ted will be broadcast instead of Eurovision on Saturday.
Father Ted will be broadcast instead of Eurovision on Saturday.

We won’t say it’s the best episode of Father Ted, but it’s certainly the most iconic — and A Song For Europe gets a prime time airing on Saturday in lieu of Eurovision. Vienna plays host to this year’s song contest, but with the buildup marred by protests over Israel’s inclusion — their entry was booed during Wednesday’s semi-final but still made it through — RTÉ has decided on the ultimate in counter-programming. So instead of Britain’s entry Look Mum No Computer (a certified banger, to be fair), we look forward to a few bars of My Lovely Horse on Saturday evening.

Concert: Paul Simon

3Arena, Dublin, Wednesday, May 20

The legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon brings A Quiet Celebration Tour to Dublin on the final night of an EU jaunt this month. No spoilers, but the show will open with a performance of the Grammy-nominated album Seven Psalms in full, followed by classic hits and some rarely, if ever, performed pieces, all lovingly and newly arranged specifically for this tour.

Live event: Jenny Keane

Everyman, Cork, Wednesday, May 20
