Cinema: Toy Story 5

General release, Friday, June 19

Tim Allen and Tom Hanks return as Woody and Buzz, joined by a stellar vocal cast including Greta Lee, Joan Cusack, and Conan O’Brien. Disney and Pixar’s latest instalment sees the beloved toys face a new challenge in a world where “Toy meets Tech” and playtime itself comes under threat. Our reviewer Cara O’Doherty said: “Warm, witty, and emotionally resonant, Toy Story 5 reminds us that while childhood may change, there will always be room for play.”

Concert: CMAT

Musgrave Park (Virgin Media Park), Cork, Saturday, June 20

CMAT
CMAT

CMAT first played Cork in February 2020, to a handful of people upstairs at the Roundy for Quarter Block Party. Just over six years later and with three albums under her cowboy hat, some 16,500 will witness her headlining Musgrave Park on Saturday. After being covered by Olivia Rodrigo recently, and having the chats with her on BBC, a CMAT show promises ridiculous joy, the ‘Dunboyne two-step’, and plenty of heart. Support comes from all-female trad act Biird and the East London collective Queer Line Dance Club. Also at Musgrave Park this week: Kodaline (Friday), Alanis Morissette (Wednesday), and The Lumineers (Thursday). Meanwhile Live at the Marquee features Bell X1 (Friday), Two Door Cinema Club (Tuesday), and Five (Wednesday).

Cork Midsummer Festival

Various venues, until Sunday, June 21

The arts festival rolls on this weekend. The Irish premiere of Kamchatka’s Fugit takes place June 19 and 20. With the meeting point to be sent to ticketholders, you’ll put yourselves in the hands of strangers, traversing the intriguing landscape of Cork City in a daytime journey like no other. Fearghus Ó Conchúir’s dance show Cúinní an Ghiorria gets a world premiere at City Hall on Saturday before things wrap up Sunday — the longest day of the year — with a Solstice Céilií at Elizabeth Fort by céilíographer Martin O’Donoghue.

Concert: Zach Bryan

Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Saturday-Sunday, June 20-21

Zach Bryan
Zach Bryan

The biggest show on Leeside this summer brings one of modern country’s most compelling voices to Páirc Uí Chaoimh as Zach Bryan takes the stage. A former US Navy sailor from small-town Oklahoma, he’s a genuine superstar now. Sixth album With Heaven on Top, released at the start of the year, shot straight to the, ahem, top of the US charts. Support comes from Fey Fili and the acclaimed Dijon.

Streaming: The Bear

Disney+, Thursday, June 25

The fifth and final season of the kitchen drama was filmed at the same time as season four, released on the same day last year. The show made stars of Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Season 5 picks up right after Sydney, Richie, and Natalie learn that Carmy has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them. The new partners must come together for a service that, they hope, earns them a Michelin star.
