Up Knocknaheeney!

The first guests to join Patrick Kielty for the first episode of his second season at the helm of the Late Late were the kids from Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew, who went viral over the summer with their song 'The Spark'.

They performed their hit song in the studio to the audience’s delight and later told Kielty how they were surprised by its success.

"It was just crazy, I don't think anybody in the Kabin expected it, anybody in the world expected it. Somehow it blew up,” said Kabin Crew member Martin.

Kielty later presented the rappers with the very first Late Late Legend Award, a new accolade “for people that we love, for people that you guys at home love, people who have made us smile, people who've inspired us with their message, and people who have changed other people's lives for the better.”

Proud Corkonian Martin was so overjoyed he triumphantly shouted “up Knocknaheeney” as they accepted the award.

Toy Show date confirmed

The Kabin Crew members have been seen on Toy Shows past and Kielty donned a Santa hat after chatting with them so share some news about this year’s episode.

"On Friday, December 6 the studio will be hosting a little thing called the Toy Show," he said. "Applications for the Toy Show are now officially open.

"We're looking for amazing kids from every county in Ireland to join us in the studio, so parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, neighbours, teachers, SNAs and coaches, we want to hear from you.

"If you know a kid that you would like to see on the Toy Show send them our way, and who knows they could be joining me on the most magical night of the year."

The countdown is on.

Paris heroes celebrated

Many of Ireland's Olympic and Paralympic medal winners were on the show to celebrate the country’s success this summer in Paris.

Rhys McClenaghan, Fintan McCarthy, Philip Doyle, Daire Lynch, Orla Comerford, Roisin Ni Riain, and Eve McCrystal were the athletes in the studio celebrating recent wins on the world stage, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

Of course, despite their massive achievements, some of our sporting legends have been kept humble by local fans, as bronze medal-winning rower Lynch recounted.

"It didn't really sink until I got back to Clonmel," Lynch said.

"The support in Clonmel was incredible, I didn't expect it at all and seeing so many familiar faces in the crowd.

"The young kids were so excited to see me and so inspired too and I went down to the schools after seeing them so excited, I thought I'd pay a visit to the schools.

“A few of the questions were why didn't you win the gold. I don't think they were too impressed with the bronze. I'll have to live up to that."

Golfing glory

Kielty sported the brightest trousers imaginable for his meeting with Rory McIlroy at the Irish Open. The pair met in Co Down where McIlroy was competing on home turf.

"I don't get the chance to play in front of my home fans very often so when I do get the opportunity I try so hard to play well. I find myself trying a bit too hard sometimes when I come back home,” McIlroy said.

The champion golfer opened up about his decision to “take a bit of time away” from golf earlier this year.

"There's been a lot going on this year, golf-wise and personal-wise. Sometimes life can get a lot as you know, it can get too much,” he said.

"I had to take a little bit of a break and get away from the game more than anything else. Golf and the business of golf had become all-consuming for me for the past couple of years and I needed to take a bit of time away to realise what was really important to me - friends, family, enjoying myself."
