Two-year-old amputee learns to walk for the first time

Kayden is a two-year-old double amputee, whose new walker let him take his first steps on his own.

Shared by his mother, Nikki, who said it was the first time the young boy had ever tried to walk by himself, the video shows some shaky progress to start, but Kayden quickly gets to grips with it.

He got it.

Posted by Nikki on July 4, the video has hit a massive viral boom on Facebook with over 51,000 shares.

Kayden was born with a medical condition called an omphalocele, in which one of more of the organs remain outside the body. During what was a complicated pregnancy, the umbilical cord also wrapped around Kayden's feet.

After birth, his right foot and left leg had to be amputated, and he is now learning to walk with his prosthetics.

Nikki is currently planning a fundraising event in August at a local centre in New Jersey, USA, while an online fundraiser has, to date, raised over $27,000 for physical therapy, braces, prosthetics and medical bills.

Kayden has a Facebook page you can follow at facebook.com/kayden.kinckle.
