Hannibal Rising

Director: Peter Webber

Cast: Gaspard Ullier, Rhys Ifans, Helena Lea Tachouska

Like so many great films one wonders just how much more can be, pardon the pun, served up?

We’ve had a couple of films featuring the man-eating Hannibal so this time we find out how he got to be like that. But to get into this prequel you don’t have to be up to par on what has gone before.

We meet Hannibal here as a WW2 teenager suffering the horrors of the time and fetching up at the castle of Hannibal the Grim, there to begin his slide into evil.

Unknown French actor Ullier does a good job as the young Hannibal but while it’s not an absolutely terrible film – you get what you expect – it indicates clearly that the series is losing its appetite to satisfy us.
