Micheál Cahill set to replace Jimmy Lee as Limerick Senior Football manager

Micheál Cahill is set to replace Jimmy Lee as Limerick Senior Football manager.

The Mungret-St. Paul’s clubman had been head coach under Jimmy Lee, who departed the role earlier this month, citing difficulties with the Limerick Football Board in a lengthy statement.

In that statement, Lee endorsed Cahill. He stated he hoped “the selection panel will see the importance of appointing him (Cahill), not only for his knowledge, skills and commitment, but also to create the continuity that, in my opinion, is essential to avoid the turnover of players that has previously taken place when management teams exit”.

It is understood that at least a half-dozen applications were received for the post with Cahill the preferred option. Cahill has been with the Shannonsiders for each of the last three seasons.

With Limerick relegated to Division Four for 2027, Cahill has a background in Strength & Conditioning, as well as spending a number of years in sports science in the United States.

Cahill’s name will go before the next Limerick County Board next month, for ratification.

2026 was a testing season for Limerick, who won just two games in Division Three, and were relegated alongside Fermanagh. The Treaty also fell to Cork in Munster before losing out away from home to Wicklow and Wexford in the Tailteann Cup.
