The Chorus

Director: Christophe Barrater

Cast: Gerard Jugnot, Francois Berleand, Jacques Perrin

Cert: 12

Nominated recently for a Best Foreign Film Oscar this turns out to be an overly-sentimental tale about a kindly but lonely teacher in a tough boy’s school who forms a choir to enrich troubled lives and give the rest of us a feel-good factor.

While it's certainly not a bad film - it's full of sweetly-warbling little lads, one of whom has a pretty mum - but there is an alarming lack of anything truly original about it and there is hardly any strong development of the characters.

It's the conventional plotline of a good man attempting to turn around the lives of unlikely subjects: well enough done, but the school report would be: Could Have Done Better.

Star Rating: 3/5
