Meanwhile, Green Day have cancelled all their live shows for the next few months so singer Billie Joe Armstrong can complete his rehab programme. Details of his addiction issues have not been released.

Emerging young guitarist Johnny Marr (above) was 49 on Wednesday, and has announced his debut solo album for early next year. The pioneering former Smiths’ axeman has also told NME that he has no plans to reunite with Morrissey and co: “Those rumours are like a sport for everyone involved bar the people who were in the group 30 years ago. But it’s not happening.” At the other end of the release spectrum is Neil Young, whose new record with Crazy Horse, entitled Psychedelic Pill, is his 35th studio album. And speaking of pension-aged rockers, Jimmy Page has been remastering some of Led Zeppelin’s albums for a box set release next year. He has also recorded vocals for Primal Scream’s new album.

GIG WISE: While us musos and twitterati have been scoffing at this week’s announcement about Bon Jovi for Slane, it’s worth bearing in mind that MCD have been at this lark a long time, and rarely back a bad horse. Anyway, it all takes place on Jun 15, with tickets going on sale next Thursday at a very optimistic €79.50 +bf. At least this week has brought one sure thing for a sell out — Lana Del Rey (right) at Vicar Street in Dublin on May 26. FILM TIPS: Cork Cine Club’s presentation on Thursday at St Johns College is South African film, Beauty (Skoonheid). Over at Triskel Christchurch, offerings include American film Liberal Arts, starring Josh Radnor and Elizabeth Olsen. The IFI in Dublin has an impressive French Film Festival on Nov 14-25, complete with an appearance of Juliette Binoche (right) to present her new film, Another Woman’s Life.
