THE Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami of December 26, 2004, was an unprecedented global catastrophe, the largest natural disaster to which the United Nations has had to respond in 60 years.

Celeb cook book

It affected millions of people in 12 countries, spanning two continents and tens of thousands of visitors from 40 nations around the world. We will never know the exact magnitude of how many men, women and children perished on December 26, but the figure is likely to exceed 300,000.

As time passes, it is easy to forget that millions in Asia and Africa are still suffering unimaginable trauma and psychological wounds. Families have been torn apart. Whole communities have disappeared. Places of worship have been wiped out. People's anchors and values have been swept away so many people are still desperate for help.
