23-acre holding near New Ross fetches over €21k/acre at auction
The land near New Ross is 'currently in permanent pasture, laid out in four divisions, and with excellent access.'
Featured here on October 5, a 23-acre holding on the outskirts of New Ross (on the Kilkenny side) was sold on Friday, October 23, by auction in the Rhu Glenn Hotel in Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny.
The property at Shanbogh Upper was sold by PN O’Gorman Auctioneers in New Ross, with Anne Carton wielding the gavel on the day.
“It’s a lovely piece of ground,” said Anne in advance of the sale. “…an executor sale and a nice, neat, tidy piece of land… currently in permanent pasture, laid out in four divisions, and with excellent access.”
The pre-auction price expectation was in the region of €16,000/acre.
“The well-attended auction attracted two main bidders,” said Anne afterwards.
“It opened at €250,000 (€11,000/acre) and moved quickly to €445,000 (€19,300/acre), at which stage it was declared on the market.”
That wasn’t the end of matters, however. The bidding continued apace with the same two bidders vying for the property, until the hammer finally came down on the figure of €490,000 (€21,300/acre).
“This sale, once again, demonstrates the popularity of compact holdings with good access,” said Anne in the aftermath.
