Coming up for public auction at the Rhu Glenn Hotel in Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny on Friday, October 23, is a 23-acre holding at Shanbogh Upper, near New Ross in Co. Kilkenny.
“This is an attractive and well-located parcel of land,” says selling agent Anne Carton of PN O’Gorman of New
Ross – a town that straddles the River Barrow and the boundary between Kilkenny and Wexford.
“It’s a lovely piece of ground. It’s an executor sale, and it’s a nice, neat, tidy piece of land… currently in permanent pasture, laid out in four divisions, and with excellent access.”
A good road network includes the R723 (formerly the main N25, which now has a larger bypass version just to the south) running close by the holding, while the N25 is very accessible, as is the town of New Ross (3.5km) and Waterford City (20km).
“It’s in a great location,” says Anne. “It’s a great location for anybody to use, even as an outside farm, for cutting silage, for example… it’s not too far off the road - a superb opportunity to acquire a compact holding with excellent access.”
This is a much-sought-after part of the country, where agricultural activity is dominated by a healthy mixture of tillage, beef cattle and dairying. Land in this area has been achieving some very strong results, and this should also sell well.
“There’s been good solid interest in it so far,” says Anne. The price expectation is in the region of €16,000 per acre.
