The lands in East Cork/ West Waterford offer a lot, with the Blackwater and its tributary the Bride draining the fertile soil along an impressively large area.

The south-facing hills north of this river system have proven particularly attractive, with the warm local climate allowing all kinds of farming practices to thrive, including fruit farms.

When a substantial holding comes on the market in this much-coveted zone, it’s a rare opportunity that arouses a good deal of interest.

New to the market with Dungarvan-based Harty & Company Auctioneers, a 77-acre farm at Curraheen South in West Waterford fits the bill perfectly with a southerly aspect overlooking the River Bride and a section of the lands bounding the river.

Tallow is just 4km away, with Lismore 5km to the northeast and Fermoy and the M8 24km to the west.

“This farm is in three distinct lots,” says selling agent Margaret Harty. “It’s on the banks of the Bride and overlooking the river. It’s in excellent permanent pasture, with one block in forestry (approximately 6.2 acres and separate from the main block), with Sycamore and Ash down by the river.”

The property can be sold as one or in a number of lots, according to how interest pans out over the coming weeks.

The farm comes with a number of outbuildings which are somewhat outdated according to the agents, but which offer a good degree of practical use.

“The farm buildings are not modern but are good for storage,” says Margaret. “There’s a four-span shed and two lean-to extensions.

“The property would have been farmed to high standard over the last few years and the interest has been good so far… both locally and farther afield. It’s an ideal farm for someone who’s looking for an outside farm, for example.”

The selling agents are anticipating in the region of €15,000 per acre for the bulk of the holding, which is in quality grassland, with the remaining 6.2 acres fetching a price more akin to its quality level (probably around €4,000 to €5,000/acre).
