The farm at Ticlash, near Rathdrum, Co Wicklow — one of two farms sold at auction.

Gorey-based auctioneers and online land auction specialists Quinn Property enjoyed another brace of successful online sales in the last week or so.

Both farms were located in Co Wicklow, on opposite sides of the River Avonmore, just south of the village of Rathdrum — about 15km from Arklow and 18km from Brittas Bay.

Both properties were put up for auction on the same day — Wednesday June 11 last.

The 38.6-acre farm at Kingston was a holding of good quality with free-draining soil, mainly in grass with one portion in tillage.

Guiding at €10,000-€12,000/acre pre-auction, the bidding began at €380,000 before progressing to €490,000. After a short recess, three additional bids brought the price to €510,000 (€13,200/acre); purchased by a local farmer.

The 38.7-acre farm at Ticlash to the east of River Avonmore was all in grass, enjoying good road frontage and with the benefit of a derelict stone cottage and shed. There was keen interest beforehand, according to auctioneer David Quinn, with a price guide of €12,000-€15,000/acre.

Although it was initially offered in lots (of 26.2 acres and 12.5 acres), the stronger demand was for the entire holding. A bid of €580,000 on the third lot largely eclipsed the combined value of €550,000 on Lots 1 and 2.

Lot 3 went back to the floor and, with no further bids forthcoming, it was withdrawn and sold for an undisclosed sum in excess of €580,000 (€15,000/acre). Once again, the buyer was a local farmer, according to auctioneer David Quinn.
