69-acre East Cork farm for auction with €20k/acre guide
Some of the quality lands on the 69-acre farm for auction at Abbeylands, Castlelyons, Co. Cork.
Coming up for auction on Wednesday the 28th of February next is a 69-acre farm near Castlelyons in East Cork.
The auction takes place both ‘live’ at the Firgrove Hotel in Mitchelstown and online via the lslauctions.com portal. Patrick O’Donovan of Limerick auctioneers O’Donovan & Associates will wield the gavel on the day.
In this part of Munster, the interests of dairying, beef, tillage and equestrian combine in almost equal measure of influence.
The farm will be offered in lots. Lot 1 consists of 19 acres in 3 divisions. Lot 2 is a 17.7-acre parcel. Lot 3 comprises 32.8 acres laid out in 6 divisions, all with road frontage and private well water supply. Lot 4 is the entire holding.
“This is a hugely attractive holding,” says Patrick. “It’s ideal for all types of farming enterprise, including beef, dairying, tillage or equestrian uses. The farm is laid out in easily managed divisions – 11 in all – with a private well water supply.”
The size and quality of this farm should be enough to generate a great deal of interest. In the past, substantial holdings such as this one in East Cork have racked up impressive prices – the combination of proximity to markets, high quality land and good communications (motorway and ports nearby) making farms in this corner of Munster a consistently attractive prospect.

“The level of interest has been strong,” says Patrick. “It’s unusual for such a big block of land to come up in the Fermoy-Castlelyons area. Every field has road frontage and they’re all well-proportioned blocks and very close to the village… Equestrian people were renting it for a few years.”
The unique combination of strong farming activity from multiple sectors gives the region a particularly energetic level of activity and the presentation of the farm in a choice of lots will only add to that phenomenon.
Having previously sold a smaller portion of the same farm for a figure believed to be in the region of €25,000/acre, the expectation for this farm is approximately €20,000/acre.
